Dhikr: Heart and Tongue

  • “The most beloved of all deeds in the eyes of Allah are those that are permanent or established regularly, even if they are small.”

  • Developing everything in our life comes with consistency in our actions. We need a plan in order to succeed based on a regular schedule and by taking one step at a time to progress.

-

  • When one establishes something in his life, he has the ability to keep it up. Being inconsistent in our actions, when we have the ability to do so, will be a proof against us in the Day of Judgment.

An Argument Between Hasan and Husain (ra)

  • Hasan and Husain radiyallahu ‘anhumaa once had an argument and stopped speaking to one another. They both knew that it was impermissible to allow this to continue for more than three days. On the third day, Hasan radiyallahu ‘anh thought that Husain radiyallahu ‘anh would come and greet him, since he was the elder of the two and thus deserved this respect. However, Husain radiyallahu ‘anh didn’t come. Since Maghrib time was approaching, Hasan radiyallahu ‘anh then decided to go to Husain radiyallahu ‘anh and greeted him. Later, he asked him why he hadn’t come. Husain radiyallahu ‘anh replied that according to the hadith of the Prophet sallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam, the one who initiates the greeting is the better of the two, and out of his respect to his elder brother, he wanted him to be better than himself!

Carrying Stones…

  • A teacher once told his students to bring a big stone to class, one for each person that they had hatred for. So they all came with their stones, some with a lot and some with a little. The teacher then told them that they had to carry the stones around with him for the rest of the day. At the end of the day, they all complained that it was too difficult to do so. He then explained that this is the example of someone who carries hatred for others in his heart.

The Prophet (saw) Requesting Dua!

  • ‘Umar radiyallahu ‘anh once requested permission from the Prophet sallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam to go for ‘umrah. The Prophet sallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam gave him permission and told him, “Ay ukhayya, ashriknaa fee du’aa-ika wa laa tansanaa - O my brother, grant us a share in your dua, and do not forget us.” (Sunan Tirmidhi)

  • The Prophet sallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam requested dua from someone who has lower in rank than him. But nowadays there are some people who are too arrogant to even ask for dua from the saaliheen, from those who are better than them.

Indistinguishable

  • When Rasulullah sallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam was sitting with his Companions radiyallahu ‘anhum, he would be indistinguishable from them. A stranger would come and would not know which one of them was the Messenger of Allah sallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam.

“I Am Better…”

  • Allah ta’ala informs us in the Qu’ran that Iblis said, “Ana khairum minhu – I am better than him.” (7: 12) Therefore if you say, “I am better than him…” then that is Shaytaan speaking through you.

Halal Things Can Be Harmful

  • A man once asked the Prophet sallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam to make dua that he be granted wealth, but the Prophet sallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam refused. He repeated his request many times, and on the fourth occasion the Prophet sallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam made dua for him. He then was granted wealth in the form of sheep, and tended to them outside of Madinah. This caused him to slowly start to neglect performing salah with jamaa’ah. Eventually, as his wealth increased, it got so bad that he only came to the masjid for Jumu’ah salah. Even worse, when Rasulullah sallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam passed away he was not even aware of it, and no one bothered to inform him either!

  • Thus even halal things can be harmful for you.
